To celebrate the award of the 2005 Nobel Prize in Economics to our distinguished colleague, the Maryland School of Public Policy established the Thomas C. Schelling Visiting Professorship. The School hosts, in each of the next three academic years beginning in 2006, a distinguished scholar whose work has drawn substantially on aspects of Schelling's innovative analyses. The “Schelling Visiting Professor” will be a resident at the School's College Park campus, and will benefit from proximity to the Washington, D.C. area and to the School's faculty—including, of course, Schelling himself. S/he will teach a graduate seminar drawing upon relevant research.
Mark A.R. Kleiman, Professor of Public Policy and Director of the Drug Policy Analysis Program, at the UCLA School of Public Affairs, Department of Public Policy, was the inaugural holder of the Schelling Visiting Professorship for 2006-2007.
William T. Dickens, Senior Fellow in Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution has been appointed the 2007-2008 Schelling Visiting Professor.
