Urban, Environmental and Public Economics with special reference to: Land use and Urban Sprawl; Environmental taxation and Regulation; Political Economy of Environmental Regulation; Fuel Economy, Travel Demand and Transportation Policy.

Dr. Bento received his Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Maryland in 2000. He held the position of Assistant Professor of Environmental Economics and Policy at the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, University of California, Santa Barbara. He also served as a consultant at the World Bank, Resources for the Future, policy advisor to several Planning agencies in California, and as a visiting scholar at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. His research has been published in leading economics journals and focuses on urban, public and environmental economics.
