Richard Nelson |

| Richard Y. Nelson, Jr. is a Senior Fellow at the University of Maryland, in the School of Public Policy. In this capacity, Mr. Nelson participates in the University's established graduate level housing and community development program as an instructor. He is also manager of the school's Office of Executive Program's mid-level executive program in housing and community development. Mr. Nelson was employed by NAHRO - the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials - for over 31 years. NAHRO is the premier national organization representing the interests of housing and community development organizations and officials. He was the organization's executive director from 1987 through 2001. During his tenure at NAHRO, Mr. Nelson served in various other capacities including Deputy Executive Director, Legislative Counsel, Director of Housing and Community Development Services, and Director of Professional Development. NAHRO, he was granted life membership in the organization and given its most prestigious award, the M. Justin Herman Award for outstanding service in the field. Prior to joining NAHRO, Mr. Nelson was employed in the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Philadelphia Regional Office for five years. Mr. Nelson received his Juris Doctor degree from Temple University School of Law, in Philadelphia, and his Bachelor of Arts Degree from San Francisco State University in California.Mr. Nelson's professional
memberships include Chair of the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery
County (MD), Board Member and Vice Chair of the Camp Hill Square Housing
Development Corporation, Emeritus Board Member of the Housing and Development
Law Institute, Advisory Board Member of Housing and Development Reporter,
Life Director of the National Housing Conference, Board Member of the
Town Center Housing Corporation. Mr. Nelson is an honorary member of the
Chartered Institute of Housing in the United Kingdom. He has also served
as a member of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development
Advisory Board and a member of the U.S. - China Residential Building Council. |
