Coverage of Weapons of Mass Destruction |

In the summer of 2002, the United States and United Kingdom confronted Saddam Hussein, alleging that Iraq had maintained a weapons of mass destruction program in violation of United Nations sanctions. The U.S./U.K. coalition forces threatened military action if Saddam Hussein did not immediately cease the weapons program and allow weapons inspectors to return to Iraq and continue the process of disarming the nation. What ensued was a showdown that continued for months until the spring of 2003, when U.S. and British forces began a military attack on Iraq.
