We have an impressive list of alumni running for the position this year.

Please choose TWO from this list. More information on the candidates below.

1. Dana Coelho, MPP/MS '07
2. Shirley Hsieh, MPP '04
3. Ruby Marcelo, MPP '07
4. Jackie Nowicki, MPP '99
5. Kristen Waters, MPP '07

CANDIDATE STATEMENTS:

1. Dana Coelho, MPP/MS '07
I am excited to graduate, but also to maintain close
ties with the School and with GWIPP. As an alumnae
coordinator I would like to see the website, alumnae
listserv and e-newsletter stick around and improve. I
can offer some technology know-how and the occasional
drop of creativity to these tasks. I hope I can also
serve as a contact in DC to current students
interested in jobs and visiting the city, and to
alumnae interested in networking and spending time
together.

2. Shirley Hsieh, MPP '04
I am happy to accept the nomination for GWIPP Alumni
Coordinator for 2007-2008. I am passionate about
helping fellow women in the area of public policy and
public sector expand their opportunities and their
knowledge inside and outside of the program. I believe
that it is key for women at the Maryland School of
Public Policy to be more active with networking. This
allows us to learn more and broaden our horizons on
what types of opportunities are out there - some that
we may never have dared considered before - and how
these different opportunities may align with our
interests. I hope to connect public policy women with
each other on a greater level.

3. Ruby Marcelo, MPP '07
Service and connections, these two words come to my
mind in connection  with the GWIPP alumni coordinator.
As coordinator I would like to serve my fellow GWIPP
members and current students with CONNECTIONS with the
alumni and D.C. area organizations.  There is a wealth
of knowledge between and among us all that needs to be
tapped.

4. Jackie Nowicki, MPP '99
I would appreciate the opportunity to continue in my
capacity as
co-alumni coordinator for the 2007-08 school year. One
of the most important aspects of my job as an
Assistant Director in GAO's Strategic Issues Team is
to develop, mentor and coach my staff by leveraging my
15 years of work experience to provide them with
developmental and networking opportunities. The
opportunity to similarly share these things with SPP
GWIPP students both allows me to give back to
Maryland's SPP and, in a small way, help ensure that
you all -- a talented pool of women committed to
public service and public policy -- have one more
connection to the community of dedicated professionals
you will soon join. Contributing to GWIPP's
newsletter, advertising free and low-cost seminars and
conferences of interest to alums and students alike,
speaking on panels, and bringing opportunities such as
the AABPA Budget Professionals panel on April 24 to
SPP are some of the ways I have contributed to GWIPP
over the past few years, and I welcome the opportunity
to continue to liaison between current and former
students.

5. Kristen Waters, MPP '07
I have thoroughly enjoyed my stint as 2006 – 2007
GWIPP president and would like to remain actively
involved with the group—its members, new officers, and
alumnae.  As an alumnae relations coordinator, I will
help current members to plan activities, find
interesting speakers, and make professional contacts.
With several years of nonprofit work experience and an
upcoming federal government position, I hope to be a
resource to students looking for jobs and internships.
I will also work to involve graduating students and
current alumnae in fun and meaningful activities, such
as happy hours or trips to policy talks.  When it
comes to potlucks and movie nights, my new apartment
will be su casa.  Finally, I will help to edit the
newsletter, engage new writers, and identify relevant
women's policy news for the list serve.  I hope you'll
consider voting for me for alumnae relations
coordinator.

Thanks for your help in selecting our new officers and supporting women in public policy!
